Stop Running Away and Just Keep on Going!

There is a quote from one my favorite Japanese dramas and it said:

“What are you doing? Can’t get up yourself? Don’t wait until someone gives you a hand. Being like that, you’ll continue to be a wimp!

People don’t extend courtesy and compassion to those not standing up firmly on their own feet. People are not so nice as to lend a hand to those running away all the time.

Everyone wants to run away when there’s trouble. But if you run away, then that’s it, isn’t it?

Even when something bad happens, you gotta pick yourself up and keep going. Isn’t that what life is all about?

If you’re willing, you can start over as many times as you want to. No matter how much you’re suffering, don’t run away anymore!”

This quote continues to be one of my reminders to myself, especially during my darkest moments. Whenever I feel like giving up, whenever I am losing hope, whenever I feel like such a failure – I remind myself that it’s not the end of the world. As long as there is breath in me, so long as my heart keeps beating – I can get up and start over as many times as I need, as many times as I want.

There are 3 statements that I want to highlight from the quote above:
“Don’t wait until someone gives you a hand.”

This is your life. You are responsible for your life. Not your parents. Not your family background. Not your education. Not society. Not your partner. Not the economy.

YOU.

Yes, we are each dealt with our own cards in life. But how you play those cards while you are alive is all up to you.

Yes, there are circumstances and people beyond our control. But you do have control over your thoughts, your beliefs, your decisions, your actions.

Stop the blame game. Stop the pity game. Stop the hate game.

Stop waiting for external conditions to be right and aligned for your life to get better.

Start being that person who will make your life better.

“People don’t extend courtesy and compassion to those not standing up firmly on their own feet.”

I personally believe that each of us is ingrained with the spirit to help other people. There are many stories of people who are so generous in sharing their love, energy, time, money, resources, and talents to give value and serve others. That’s one of the awe-inspiring beauty of humanity.

But you know what I personally see as more awe-inspiring?

It’s the people who are not giving up. Those who are standing up and continue to triumph over whatever life throws at them. Those who are rising above their current conditions to reach for their dreams. Those who choose not to be victims but victors. Those who are able to own their power and shine their light, so they can be a light for others. These people and their stories bring me to tears.

When you see people fighting and giving their all – it makes you want to cheer them on and extend help in whatever way you can.

But when you see someone not even trying to help themselves – would you be inspired to help that person?

From personal experience, it’s draining to help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves. You’ll just be in a parasitic relationship. And really, instead of helping, you end up doing that person a disservice.

“Even when something bad happens, you gotta pick yourself up and keep going.”

In life, there will be good times and there will be bad times. That’s a given. You cannot expect life to be all roses and daisies and rainbows and golds. That will be boring, I think.

The struggle, the pain, the challenges – these are the things that build our character. I believe that their sacred purpose is to prepare, equip, and mold us for whatever mission God has in store for us.

That’s why, when something bad happens, we have to keep going.

If you need to rest, if you need to hide, if you need to escape – do it, but only for a while. Do it to re-charge. Do it to re-examine. Do it to pause. But don’t stay there.

When you’re ready, you can start over as many times as you need and want.

Crawl. Walk. Run. Jump. Leap. Whatever it takes, just rise up and continue your journey.

And as you continue your journey and face life head on, I promise you – the right people, the right events, the right circumstances, the right opportunities, the miracles, the blessings, the synchronicity, the divine coincidences, and the divine inspiration will come to meet you along the way.

Just keep on going.

Peace, Love, and Light!
